Y2 Weekly News: 11.2.21

Another super week has passed us by in Year 2. This week we've been animal describers, space race investigators and we even travelled to space via an AR app!

This week saw us focus upon lots of SPaG. We started out by looking at homophones and quickly spotted them everywhere we looked. We learnt a new song to help us with there, their and they're and used this within our writing. We also spent the week answering a range of SPaG questions including spellings, conjunction words and so much more!

In English this week, we completed a task on describing animals. We built our writing toolkit each day and included so many brilliant things in our writing. We added in question marks, commas in a list and apostrophes for possession. Your writing sounded fantastic and very professional as we described a range of animals.

We also practised our letter formation and handwriting throughout the week, as well as having a big focus upon Year 2 spellings. We crowned 25 handwriting champions throughout the week, did you get one?

In Maths, we completed our short unit on length and measurement. We looked at centimetres and metres. We focused on practical measuring throughout the week, completing a series of investigations. We also used Power Maths alongside this learning. We were able to measure, answer word problems and use reasoning to work out a range of questions.

Throughout the week, we focused upon online safety. On Tuesday it was the national day for online safety. We discussed how to stay safe whilst using the internet, spoke about passwords and read a story where Digiduck purchased lots of gold coins on her mum's account. We also used a new app called Interland to highlight the fact that we must be kind when online, just like we are in the real world. We also spent time taking part in a number of worships throughout the week. Our favourite was Picture News. We talked about the importance of the Highway Code and some of us even had a practice of the hazard perception test on the computer! We discussed why it was important to be safe near roads.

We had so much fun in History this week as we explored the space race further. We delved more into the life of Neil Armstrong and his achievements. From this, we wrote amazing paragraphs to describe how amazing his life was. We will use this learning for our Study Work next week. We then thought about the famous rockets throughout space. We learnt about 6 famous rockets and their importance throughout history – learning about the first men, women and animals in space. Which rockets and dates can you remember?
We also use the Ipads to use an app called MoonShot AR. We were transported into space through portals, we got up close and personal with Armstrong's suit and also watched the Saturn V rocket launch.

In R.E, we continued to think about the Kingdom of God. We recapped the values of God's Kingdom and then spent time thinking about the Lord's Prayer. We looked closely at the prayer and quickly found the saying ''Thy Kingdom come''. We discussed this and then created amazing posters about what God's Kingdom looks like on earth.

This week we were focusing on our heartbeat: before, during, and after physical activities. Doing activities we love helps us to be fit and active and is a way of us looking after ourselves. It keeps our hearts healthy and also helps us to feel good too. We learnt how to find our pulse and after exercising, we noticed our heart rate had increased.
