Another half term is already over, can you believe it? In our 4 day week we have managed to fit in a lot of learning and activities.

In English, you learnt about how the HS2 is affecting 18 woodlands between Crewe and Manchester. We felt very angry that this is happening so we decided after feeling inspired by Wangari we would write our very own letters to Cheshire East explaining the importance of trees to our world and how else they could build the HS2 without damaging our well loved trees. Your letters are absolutely fantastic and are so well written. You even used rhetorical questions and emotive language to help persuade the reader. These letters are now written up to go in your study work books.

In phonics, you have continued to learn your new sounds and read your new books. All assessments have been completed this week and I am amazed with your level of progress.

In maths, you have been continuing to build upon your learning around place value to 50. You have learnt how to count in 10s and you are all getting very confident at doing this. You learnt how to use tens and ones to represent numbers to 50 and by the end of the week you were comparing these numbers using your greater, less than and equals to symbols. You are maths geniuses.

In history, you learnt about June Mottershead and what her childhood was like at Chester zoo. You compared this to your own childhood.

In RE, all of your learning around the Christian symbol of the cross came to an end as you focused on your assessment. You answered the question 'How is the cross an important symbol to Christians?' verbally and by creating your very own stained glass window cross. You chose 4 words to describe what the cross means to Christians. You chose some of the following words 'forgiveness' 'salvation' 'joy' and 'sacrifice'. You are very proud of your crosses and they have made a beautiful display on our class windows.

In heartsmart, you focused on spending and saving. At the start of the lesson you were given a crisp and you were told that if you haven't eaten it by the end of the lesson you could have another crisp. This taught you a valuable lesson that you get more of a reward if you save.. You were then told you would have £2 pocket money each week and you had to decide if you would spend your £2 on sweets and little things or save it for bigger things like toys or a TV. You were all savers by the end of the lesson and enjoyed your second crisp. We did realise it was difficult to resist the temptation but you all did amazingly well. We looked at how our lesson linked to the Bible quote of 'But whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow' Proverbs 13:11.

You also created two study work book pages one that focused on our science topic and one that focused on your courageous advocacy. These look amazing and you worked ever so hard on them!

I hope you all have a fantastic half term. You deserve a good rest from learning which is why no homework has been set. I am so proud of how hard you have worked this half term and what brilliant learners you have become. Thank you for making me smile and laugh everyday.

I will see you all in a week's time,

Miss Haynes
