It may have been a 4 day week but wow Y1 we have managed to get through lots of work.

This week in English, our Year 1 class had a lot of fun working on our shared stories of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Breakfast'. We continued to write and edit our stories, changing the food, characters, and animals from the original story. Our focus was on using capital letters for names, including adjectives for character and setting description, and using the red cards in the room to spell our tricky words correctly. We were so proud of the end result, and our finished stories are fantastic! Next week, we will be working on our independent write, and we can't wait to see how we can use all of our skills independently.

In Phonics, we continued reviewing all of our sounds and learning how to read multi-syllabic words. We have been building our pace each time we read our book so that we can be fluent readers.

In Maths, we finished our learning on capacity by solving word problems and completing a quiz. We then moved onto multiplication, focusing on our 2, 5, and 10 times tables. During our starters, we recapped counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. In our first multiplication lesson, we worked on making equal groups. Next week, we will build upon this learning by adding equal groups and learning how to double.

In History, we learnt about Grace Darling and what her everyday life was like. We acted out her life as a whole class and discovered that boys and girls had very different lives and jobs to do. Using what we learnt, we wrote a diary entry in our books from Grace Darling's perspective, which were amazing entries.

In RE, we continued to learn about the day of the Pentecost and answered the big question of 'What happened to the disciples as they got the Holy Spirit?' You had great answers, such as they became powerful and could speak in different languages.

In Science, we learnt how plants start from a seed or a bulb, and understood that all seeds are different depending on the plant we use. In partners, we planted our very own bean plants, thinking carefully about what we had learnt in our previous lesson and what plants need to grow. We will complete a bean plant diary to show the changes of our plant.

In My Happy Mind, we learnt about 'engage' and goal setting. We set ourselves goals for school and outside of school, thought about how we are going to achieve them, and who can help us. We also remembered that to do good, we need to feel good.

In Computing, we explored our courageous advocacy by learning how to take pictures from different angles. We learnt how to take a Birds Eye view, insect view, below eye level, and eye level. We enjoyed taking pictures of nature from different perspectives.

Finally, we loved dressing up in red, white, and blue and having an all-day breakfast picnic in the classroom with our friends for the Coronation. We learnt what a coronation is and who King Charles ||| is, and completed some silhouette pictures of King Charles using a collage effect. We also made the sceptre and orb out of clay. I hope you enjoy all of your coronation celebrations at the weekend!

Your homework for this week has been emailed out on Friday. Remember that we will be going to moss on Tuesday weather depending.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Haynes
