Welcome back year one! I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter holidays!
In phonics we have been looking at reading and writing our additional sounds. We have enjoyed reading our new books, lots of us are on new colours! Good job team!
In maths we have been counting in 2s, 10s and 5s. We really enjoyed singing songs to help us learn what number comes next! We have also looked at equal groups and how to add equal groups.
We finished our stories from where the wild things are. Then there was a booklet left for us to look at. It was a guide to the wild things, but there was on only one page! The signal page had information about one of the wild things. We have decided to help fill in this booklet with our own fact files about the wild things. On Friday we had a go at creating kenning poems, using a body part and a -er noun. They were a really good read, you should all be very proud of your work!
In computing we have started looking at keyboards. We discussed how we can use a keyboard to create writing. We looked at pictures of keyboards and discussed what we think each key does. Then we had a go at using the laptops. We had to find google docs. Using the keyboard we had to write each other's names and find out which button deleted work and which one started a new line. We really enjoyed this and can't wait to use the keyboards again!
In history we have learnt what a timeline is and how to use one. We discussed that it is about having important events. We were given some important events that have happened to us or we know about and we had to put them in the correct place on the timeline. We talked about whether each event was within our living memory or beyond.
We have started our new topic in art, spirals! We watched a video on how to draw a spiral, using our whole body. Starting off with small finger and wrist movements and using different parts of the body as the spiral gets bigger. We practiced making spiral with different resources and then we went outside so we had more room to work. We hoped you liked seeing our work on the playground at the end of the day!
This week in our music lesson, we played note C on our glockenspiels. We had to listen to the count introduction and then play on the first number 1. We tried that hard to play on time, that we were playing too soon. After some practising, we were so close to playing on number 1. Great work team!
In RE we have been looking at a chatterbox with lots of different objects in, praying hands, a candle and a book of baby names to name a couple. We talked about what was inside of the box and how we think all these objects link together. Children were able decided they were objects to do with christenings. We looked at each object and discussed what they were used for. Then we discussed that baptism is about starting your Christian life fresh and washing away any sins. We discussed whether everyone in the class was christened or how they welcome new family members into our families. We would love to see any photos you have of your own christening. If you aren't christened, a photo of when you first came home to put on a display in our classroom.
Our first lesson in our athletics unit has been about being in the "ready" position to start a race, to react quickly and show agility and coordination. We practised being ready through various games involving running starts and for agility and coordination we used games where we had to react quickly to our partners commands staying low to the ground and shuffling sideways, forwards and backwards.
We have started our new topic in science, plants. We have been observing plants, seeds and bulbs. We looked at the similarities and differences. We grouped the photos into seeds and bulbs and they predicted which each seed/bulb belonged to. We loved finding out that plants are living things just like us. We know they are living things because they grow! Then we got to plant our very own strawberry seed and are very excited to watch them grow. We made predictions of how long it would take and what would happen first. We will keep you posted on what happens with them!
It has been a lovely first week back!
