The weeks are flying right by as we enter the festive period...

In Phonics this week, we recapped all of our sounds and even practiced reading some tricky red words. We read a range of RWI books to improve our blending and fluency.

In English, we continued to plan and write our own versions of Rapunzel. We thought about adding adjectives to our nouns to create fantastic noun phrases within our stories. We used our writers' knowledge as well as planning circles to help us write the opening and problem in our stories. We have loved reading our stories out each day. We will continue with this next week.

In Maths, we continued our new unit on shape. We continued to build upon our knowledge of shape through practical activities. We went on a shape hunt, used a geoboard to build 2D shapes, and completed lots of Power Maths questions. We also continued to build our fluency skills in mastering numbers. This week saw us focus on doubles once more. We focused on pairs and how some odd numbers do not have pairs.

In P.E, we continued our new unit of work all around gymnastics. We spent our time this week focusing on bridges. We were able to use 4 or 5 points of contact to create some strong bridges. We loved demonstrating our skills.

In our music lesson this week, we watched a further part of our philharmonic orchestra video. We watched the conductor closely to see if we thought he had an easy or a hard job. We all agreed he looked like he enjoyed his job very much. When we moved on to our listen and layer task, we chose to listen to 'Dream On.' We discovered a new icon in this song. We guessed correctly...the 2 microphones were to show the 2 backing singers' vocals. We showed off our dancing dinosaur moves when finding the beat. We laughed at our song as it said that dinosaurs wear baggy pants!!

In History, we spent time sorting new and old toys. We thought about which toys went in which category. It was fantastic to see your historical thinking in action. We compared toys, including a range of dolls and wooden toys from the past, as well as electronic toys from the present.

In Art this week, we continued to build upon our knowledge of sculptures. We thought about what materials we could use for our sculptures and what sculptures make people feel.

We also spent time this week thinking about preparing for our nativity and Year 1 worship. We sang songs, read words, and practiced using the microphone!

In Computing, we continued our digital painting unit. We used the app paintz to create some amazing artwork. We used the tools, including fill and line, to build some colorful pieces. What brilliant skills on show!

In R.E, we continued to think about the story of creation. We took some time out to spot creation all around us. We went on a creation hunt and found some amazing wonders around our school. From watching the trees blow in the wind to spiders winding their magical webs, it was fantastic to see creation on display.

On Thursday, we worked with Mr. Pascoe to help us with some more rugby skills. We practiced throwing, catching, and running with the ball. Well done, everyone!

Throughout the week, we also had lots of provision time. During this time, we enjoyed the garden, explored the provision areas in the classroom, and enjoyed some role-play games with our friends. It was great to see the construction and mud kitchen areas in full use once again.

What a brilliant week!

Enjoy your Sunday,

Mr. Dale
