This week has seen us become researchers, gymnastic stars, and kindness champions!

In Phonics this week, we recapped all of our sounds and even practiced reading some tricky red words. We read a range of RWI books to improve our blending and fluency.

In English, we got stuck into our brand new story, Rapunzel. We learned all about the plot, characters, and setting. We spent the week writing a range of sentence-accuracy sentences. We focused on capital letters, full stops, and adding -ing and -s/-es to words. We also spent time thinking about adjectives and how these can be added to nouns.

In Maths, we continued to focus our attention on subtraction. We used part-wholes, number lines, and concrete resources to help us build an understanding of less than and subtraction. We spent this week looking for word problems and thought about the best way to solve these. We often found drawing pictures could help us. We also continued to build our fluency skills in mastering number. We used the multilink cubes to help us count to and from 10. We noticed that the number blocks were in a staircase pattern each time we added one more. Well done, everyone!

In P.E, we continued our new unit of work all around gymnastics. We continued to build points of balance as well as working on small routines with jumps, balances, and transfers. What a great effort, team!

In History, we started a new mission all about toys and the history of them. We learned all about timelines and even used the iPads to research some modern and older toys. We are now seeing the key differences between toys from today and those of the past.

Following on from last week's Bring the Noise learning, we watched another section of the Philharmonic orchestra video. Through song, we learned what rhythm is in music. Various artists and some uplifting songs demonstrated how to show rhythm. We had a go ourselves by saying 'chicken and chips and mushy peas!' We tapped our bodies as we said it. We could see how rhythm is a pattern of sounds of different lengths. We chose to layer a song called 'I am a Robot.' We added and removed the vocalist, the keyboard, and the electronic drums. We could hear how the sounds changed, which also altered the volume. We joined in singing the song and moving like robots. To end the lesson, our song this week was called 'In the Orchestra.' The lyrics were about orchestral instruments. We danced and acted playing some of these instruments. Miss Holland was so pleased at how focused we were. Great job, year 1!

On Thursday, we worked with Mr. Pascoe to help us with some rugby skills. We practiced throwing, catching, and running with the ball. Well done, everyone!

In R.E, we started a new unit all about creation. We spoke about what creation means and then became creators ourselves. We had three creation stations in the classroom. It was amazing to see your creativity flow. We will apply this to our R.E learning next week.

Throughout the week, we also had lots of provision time. During this time, we enjoyed the garden, explored the provision areas in the classroom, and enjoyed some role-play games with our friends. It was great to see the construction and mud kitchen areas in full use once again.

What a brilliant week!

Enjoy your Sunday,

Mr. Dale
