It was a pleasure to spend time with our Reception class this week.

Our letter knowledge has grown to explore the sounds p, n and g. We enjoyed learning new rhymes, looking at our letter as pictures and listening to our friend Fred segment words. We listening very carefully in order to say the real word back to Fred.

Within our Mathematical development, we looked at the value of 1,2,3,4 using objects, pictures and numbers. We worked very carefully to use a five frame to count and worked out that it didn't matter if the objects were different sizes or colours. We gave ourselves a little challenge to try and count forwards and backwards on a five frame which we all tried very hard to complete.

In Music, we had a great time responding to the song Happy by Pharell Williams. We moved our bodies to the music and shared our thoughts about the feelings and colours it made us think of. We then explored the beat of the music within a familiar rhyme and other songs. It was lovely to see you respond to our clapping game too. We listened very carefully and watched how the sound of our claps moved around the circle.

In our understanding of the world development, we explored how Mr Gumpy travelled in our class story and this helped us to become wonderful map makers. Mr Gumpy travelled on a boat along a river so we thought about our journey to school. We used maps and aerial photos of Wybunbury and loved seeing our school building using an aerial video. We then drew a map of our journey to school.

This week in our HeartSmart learning, were are learning to work and play cooperatively together and listen to one another's ideas and adapt our strategy. To start our lesson, we read our Boris the robot story, paying special attention to what Boris looked like, as our challenge is to build our own Boris. After reading the story, as a group, we shared our thoughts and ideas about what Boris looks like and what materials we could use to build our own robot. Next, we worked in small groups so that we all had a part to play in building our class Boris. We painted boxes for Boris's head and body, cut out shapes for his eyes, nose and mouth, folded paper for his arms and legs and glued cups on for his ears! We think he looks great and hope you do too! Boris says "It's fun to pretend to be someone else but being yourself is the best you can be!" Bible link: "Love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12

We hope you are all having a lovely weekend,

Mrs Pointon
