What a busy and fun filled week we've had in Reception Class! There's been so much to learn and enjoy. Let us share some of our favourite moments with you.

Understanding the World Development
This week In RE, we've continued our learning all about prayer and how people can talk to God. We discovered that there are lots of ways to praise God using movement like clapping, jumping, skipping, and even wriggling! We learned that Jesus taught the disciples how to pray using the Lord's Prayer. We found this special prayer in the Bible (Matthew 6 and Luke 11), listened to it being sung, and even looked at books that explained the prayer for children. Did you know that Christians all over the world say this prayer in their own language? It's amazing to think how connected we all are!

Forest School Adventures: What a fantastic time we had at Forest School with Mr. Hadfield. We got very creative and made clay hedgehogs by squishing and rolling the clay, molding the nose, adding little eyes, and even using twigs for spikes. They looked fantastic! We also practiced making dragon sneezes with fire steels to light fires and toasted yummy marshmallows on the campfire. What a treat!

Mathematical Development
This week in maths, we explored comparing numbers up to 10. We started by comparing groups of objects and noticed how the objects can be different in size but still show the same number. We love using ten frames to help us count and compare-it's like a maths superpower!

Literacy
We continued our superhero adventure with Joop and her search for a Sidekick. We thought about what makes a great story, like having a beginning, a build-up, a problem, and an ending. We also explored words that describe things to make our writing more exciting and even wrote the opening to our own superhero story! It was so much fun creating our superhero world.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Wellbeing
In our wellbeing session this week, we imagined we could click our fingers and travel anywhere in the world, but where would we go? Some of us wanted to visit new places, while others wanted to return to favourite places we've already been. It was so interesting hearing each other's ideas! To help us feel calm and relaxed, we practiced some breathing exercises. It's amazing how a few deep breaths can make us feel so peaceful.

In HeartSmart, we learned about noticing how others feel. We looked at pictures of children with different facial expressions and guessed how they might be feeling and why. Boris reminded us that "It's okay to feel sad or mad, but it's important not to stay that way." We talked about how we can help each other feel better, because caring for others is what superheroes do!
Bible reference: Do for others just what you want them to do for you. Luke 6:3

Expressive Arts and Design
In music, we learned about lullabies and how they are sung to help babies fall asleep. We listened to a South African lullaby called Thula Baba. We heard instruments like a xylophone, maracas, and a djembe drum. We discovered that South African mothers sway while singing this lullaby, so we stood up and swayed to the music too. It helped us imagine how a baby might feel soothed to sleep. We finished by singing Rock-a-Bye Baby.

In our creative time, we carried on with our superhero theme by making more collages. We used magazine and comic pictures to create amazing designs. Our classroom is looking so colourful with all our superhero skyscraper collages!

Physical Development
The rainy weather kept us inside for PE, but we didn't let that stop us from moving and having fun! We warmed up with Jump Start Johnny's Party People Bounce and Freeze Dance. Then, we went on a yoga adventure with Cosmic Kids' Dinosaur Park. We learned fun poses like diplodocus pose, jeep pose, and gate pose. To finish, we played some exciting circle games like Dance Detectives and Laughing Lions. It was a roaring good time!

We hope you enjoyed reading about our week! There's always something exciting happening in Reception Class, and we can't wait to see what adventures next week will bring.

Have a wonderful weekend!
