Another great week of learning Reception Class.
Let's share...

Our focus for our mathematical development this week was to look at the properties of 2D shapes and some of the mathematical words to describe them. We saw these common shapes in different orientations to help our understanding that it is the same shape even if it is in a different position or angle. Using our 3D shapes, we printed off shape pictures, matching 3D shapes to our 2D prints and naming them.

In our afternoon mastering number sessions we focused on comparisons of groups of objects, looking at what was the same and what was different, using the language of more than and fewer than in stem sentences.

In our literacy development we enjoyed our 'Jump In' sessions, immersing ourselves in the story 'A star in the jar' by Sam Hay. First we explored some objects and discussed where we would normally see them in everyday life. Then we observed some carefully chosen pictures from the text and discussed what we though the story could be. It was very exciting to unwrap the book and read the story and check our understanding of some of the story words.

Each day we completed our sentence accuracy activity based on the story and even attempted to write some independent ones, using a capital letter to start, sounded out words, used finger spaces and ended with a full stop. Reception Class I am so proud of you, you are have really showed resilience and a 'can do' attitude to your writing this week. Keep going!

We really enjoyed our session with coach James as part of our physical development, as well as enjoying a relaxing yoga afternoon. Beginning with Namaste, we then stretched out our bodies, exploring different poses and balances to develop our core strength.

Following on from worship, where we learned about remembrance, we discussed why we wear poppies at this time of year, every year. We made some wonderful poppy headbands, which were greatly admired by the rest of the school, to wear as we held a two minutes silence to respect fallen soldiers from past conflicts.

We also began our new unit of RE as part of our understanding the world. Our key question we began to explore was: How do Christians celebrate Jesus' birthday?
Clever Club brought some items in his bag for us to explore; stars, angels, a nativity set in a gift box, Christmas cards, a birthday cake and some cake candles.

We listened to the storybook 'Clever Cub welcomes baby Jesus' and worked together to link the items to the story. We understand that Christmas day is a celebration of Jesus' birthday. We then thought of some of the ways that his birthday (Christmas) is celebrated. We made some lovely birthday cards with special messages for him.

For our wellbeing this week, we thought about the things we have done that make us feel proud of ourselves and why they gave us a sense of pride. Reception class, it is lovely to hear of your great achievements outside of school, such as riding bikes without stabilizers, swimming without armbands as well as feeling proud of your learning achievements in school, such as writing a sentence independently.

Have a great weekend everyone
See you Monday
