What a fantastic week we've had in Year 2.
In English this week, we started a brand new T4W unit all about meeting tales. We started with our cold write and wrote stories about animals meeting and overcoming a problem. From this we talked about what we could include in our writing moving forward and came up with 3 targets. Adjectives and commas in a list became some of our focus targets for over the next couple of weeks. We spent time learning our new model text about a young sheep and an old goat! It was fantastic to hear all your actions. We applied ourselves during our short burst writing this week where we mainly focused upon adjective work! We will continue learning our story next week.
In Maths, we started a new unit on money. We looked at counting coins and notes, but quickly realised we weren't as confident in doing this due to lockdowns and learning that we had missed! So, we took part in more practical lessons throughout the week to help consolidate our learning from y1. We looked at exchanging coins and what each note was worth. There are some extra help sheets on SeeSaw too! We will carry our money learning on into next week.
In Reading and Phonics we continued to recap key sounds, spellings and practised our comprehension skills throughout the week. You all continued to read well at home and I'm blown away by the amazing book reviews you have been leaving!
In Art, we finished painting our clay chicken egg pots and also produced a fantastic Study Work page from this, where you used your iPad skills to create your own pages on SeeSaw – check a couple of them out!
In Computing, we consolidated our coding work so far by completing an unplugged lesson. We put down the iPads and headed outside to complete some fantastic algorithm work. It was so fun to see you coding your partner and inputting an algorithm filled with instructional code to allow your partner to cross the adventure playground! We will start our project in computing next week, HOW EXCITING!
We continued our Geography unit all about Wybunbury this week. We spent time recapping our knowledge of villages, towns and cities. From this we used a local area map to highlight and locate a range of towns and cities, explaining the difference as we did. We spent some of our Computing time building our SeeSaw pages to consolidate our learning – you found some excellent pictures of villages, towns and cities. We will continue our learning next week.
On Wednesday, it was our very first Forest School session. We came all wrapped up ready for our morning with Mr Hadfield. We went into the F.S shed and looked at some amazing resources like antlers, fire and steel and even listened to a story! We built habitat homes for mini-beasts and finished by using the fire and steel to make real life flames! It was so exciting and we can't wait for next week!
We had our first extra P.E slot this Friday. Mr Owens was very impressed with us all as we played lots of team games outside. It was great to hear children cheering each other on across the playground!
We spent time taking part in Worship over the week. Our favourite worship was certainly on Wednesday when we got to listen to the song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy".
Have a lovely weekend!
