Another short but busy week in Year 4!
In Maths, we were introduced to strategies to find the area of rectilinear shapes. To do so, we looked at the shapes as two smaller rectangles, and then used these to find the total. We were also given the challenge to draw a rectilinear shape and find the area. In our decimals lessons, we have learnt to write decimals (using tenths and hundredths), order decimals in ascending and descending order, and round decimals.
We have completed our independent writing this week, and you have showcased your skills to describe the character's wish to visit another place, and the excitement of creating an invention. We used all of our skills that we had learnt to write a fantastic narrative. At the end of our week, we were immersed into our next piece of writing – a biography. The children considered questions that they would want to ask David Attenborough if they were able to.
Our spelling focus this week was on words using the 'sc' pattern e.g. science.
Within our Reading lessons this week, we have enjoyed our class story.
Our PE focus for this week was on attacking. The children learnt about the positions C, WA, GA and GS. Taking part in a pattern of passing to each position before shooting helped us to understand the structure of netball. We then applied these skills to a mini game. The children worked in teams to pass along the court and shoot.
In our DT lessons this week, we evaluated how we found sewing a seam using back stitch. We then drew a design for our purses.
In our History lessons this week, we have learnt about where China is located and some of its main geographical features. We used the atlases. We looked at where the Shang Dynasty once was.
Within our Science lesson this week, we recorded the results of our egg experiment. We reviewed what had happened to each egg and then considered why we found these results.
We started our new unit in RE this week. This term we are learning about the representation of the Holy Spirit within a baptism. We started our unit by discussing what we already knew about a baptism. We then learnt about infant and believer baptisms. At the end of our lesson, we discussed the items involved in a baptism e.g. a candle, a towel, a certificate, cards and gifts.
Our Science lesson enabled us to recap our last lesson about particles, and then move onto learning about gases. We explored the gases in fizzy drinks and learnt that carbon dioxide creates the bubbles. Using a selection of fizzy drinks, we explored a scientific question, Do gases weigh anything? Our investigation will continue over the coming days so we will look forward to finding out the results in our next Science lesson.
Have a wonderful weekend.
