It's been another busy week in Year 3! It's hard to believe we're almost at the end of the term.
In Maths, we looked carefully at reading the mass on a scale. We studied the marked intervals and tried very hard to identify different measurements in kg and g. We then moved on to capacity. This gave lots of opportunities to read intervals using litres and millilitres. We used our counting and trial and error skills to identify how much liquid was in each container. We worked quickly to move between millilitres and mixed units of litres and millilitres.
In English, learning about types of sentences gave us the opportunity to look at statement sentences, question sentences, command sentences and exclamation sentences. We sorted the sentences, wrote our own, and completed a challenge to find examples in our reading books. In handwriting, we have been practising our joins.
In RE, we explored the Holy Trinity by working as a team to recreate Rublev's Icon, a famous painting from the 15th Century. We looked at the image, found out about the importance of the colours and what each part represents; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We then responded by creating our own artwork of what the Holy Trinity means to us. We then learnt more about the Holy Trinity by looking at how it is represented in different symbols. We discovered the trefoil symbol and the symbol of a Celtic cross. We enjoyed using all our prior learning to create our own symbol showing the Holy Trinity. We thought carefully about what each part represents.
In History, our task was to become familiar with a hand drawn map showing London in Anglo Saxon times. We worked hard to identify the place names and then worked as a team to find out what the place names are today.
In Geography, we completed our assessments by adding to our mind maps all of the things we had learned about coasts, both physical and economic.
In PHSE we thought about how things in life can go up and down. We listened to stories about famous people such as Walt Disney, and how they received many knocks and failures before finding success. We wrote down some of our dreams for success along with the attitudes we would need to try and make those dreams happen.
In handwriting, we have been practising our joins.
It was also RSE this week. In our lessons we learned about body differences, in particular the differences between males and females. We thought about the importance of personal space and we explored different types of families and who can help us.
We're motoring along with study work also, making sure that we're all up to date.
