What a fantastic week we've had in Year 2.
In English this week, we started a brand new T4W unit all about meeting tales. We started with our cold write and wrote stories about animals meeting and overcoming a problem. From this we talked about what we could include in our writing moving forward and came up with 3 targets. Adjectives and commas in a list became some of our focus targets for over the next couple of weeks. We spent time learning our new model text about a young sheep and an old goat! It was fantastic to hear all your actions. We applied ourselves during our short burst writing this week where we mainly focused upon adjective work! We will continue learning our story next week.
In Maths, we continued our unit on money. We continued to look at counting coins and notes. We worked practically and opened up our own shops, making sure we gave our shops the correct amount of change. On Wednesday, we moved into our Power Maths books. We completed lessons on equal amounts of money and used our knowledge of exchanging to help us.
In Reading and Phonics we continued to recap key sounds, spellings and practised our comprehension skills throughout the week. You all continued to read well at home and I'm blown away by the amazing book reviews you have been leaving!
We continued our Geography unit all about Wybunbury this week. We spent time comparing our local village of Wybunbury to a village in Mexico. We looked at the village of Tocuaro. We compared their lake to Wybunbury Moss and the local shops to our post office. We used SeeSaw to compare pictures and different parts of the villages too! Did you know that Tocuaro has a pink church!
On Wednesday,we took part in our second Forest School session. We started by completing a treasure hunt. We found everything from acorns, to lichen, to apples and even berries! We then moved on to practicing our archery skills and built small fires using cotton balls. To finish, we all toasted marshmallows on Mr Hadfield's roaring fire.
We had our first extra P.E slot this Friday. Hayley was very impressed with us all as we played a series of ball games outside.
In R.E, we started our new unit. We discussed the big question of "What does the visit of the Magi tell us about Jesus?". We were able to find out that the Magi were the three kings in the Christmas story and thought about why three kings would want to visit a baby. We role played this to discuss this further. Well done, team!
We also spent time speaking to PC Nick this week. He told us about how and why to make a call to 999. We discussed the different roles of the police and some of the equipment they used. Thank you, PC Nick!
We spent time taking part in Worship over the week. Our favourite worship was on Monday when we took part in picture news. We discussed why elephants should be protected and the things we could do to help.
Have a lovely weekend!
