Happy Sunday Everyone! What a busy busy week Year 1 have had! We started the week with the most wonderful time at the zoo! Everyone was so well behaved and no one complained even though they walked so far! We saw so many different animals and spoke to lots of different zoo keepers. Everyone should be incredibly proud of themselves and I hope you all had as much fun as I did!

Even after a busy Monday the children have been non stop working hard. We have achieved so much this week! In English we played 'roar, gnash, roll and show', showing the different actions from the story. We have also looked at the suffixes: -ing, -er, -ed and added them to words.

In maths we have been looking at measure and length, we have talked about different ways to measure and discussed the differences between words such as tallest and longest. In the afternoons we have been looking at the number 9. We started by finding 5 in 9 and then we found all the different ways to make 9.

In History we looked at why zoos are important. We read different views and categorised them in for and against zoos. We discussed these views, looking at the different ideas and deciding what we believed.

In our DT sessions we have been working on our puppets. Everyone used the running stitch to put our puppets together. We all worked really hard with our running stitches. Everyone was super focused, taking their time and really thinking about how to use their needle and thread. When they were finished we were so proud of our hard work. We got to do puppet shows at the end of the day! We hope you loved seeing our puppets when we got to take them home! Well done team, tricky job but you did amazing!

In RE we looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and linked it to the Easter story. We talked about how the butterfly goes into the chrysalis and then comes our with a new life. We then record the life cycle of the butterfly.

In heartsmart we have been looking at our feelings. We were read different scenarios and we had to draw the facial expression of that feeling. We then discussed how to rid of that feeling. We said if you are feeling angry you should do some breathing or have a cuddle. Scared you should talk to someone you trust and have a cuddle. Bible Reference: Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Corinthians 13: 4 – 5.

Cuckoo, Cuckoo! This was the melody we heard in this week's song in music. We lay down on the floor, closed our eyes, and listened attentively to this song. We saw what a cuckoo looks like, and we learnt how it steals nests from other birds. We thought this was a bit cheeky!

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend!
