We have had a ROAR some week at Preschool and as always it has been a busy one!
For most of the week, we have enjoyed exploring our room to find out what our new topic could be. We began the week very excited to discover a tray full of rocks, eggs and excavation tools. We discussed what we thought they could be, "Chicks" "Easter Bunny" "Bones". Then to support our physical development, we used our tools to scrape and chisel and uncovered dinosaur fossils- wow!
This led our learning this week.
To support our communication and language development, we explored the question, "What is a fossil?" We shared the information text 'First Facts about Dinosaurs' and learned that it is a special rock that holds the remains of creatures that lived millions of years ago.
For our understanding the world development, we began our learning on Mary Anning, one of the most famous fossil hunters in the world. We found out that she is a significant figure because she was one of the first people to find fossils of prehistoric animals. We learned that a fossil hunter is also known as a paleontologist, we have had lots of fun learning this word the week
During our expressive arts and design development, we used pasta to create our own excavation picture. To make our pictures look authentic we brushed tea leaves over our pasta to give it the effect of mud. We also imprinted a dinosaur into salt dough to create our own fossils.
We have also taken part in a few themed days this week.
On Tuesday we celebrated St. David's day and Shrove Tuesday. Please see our earlier post.
On Thursday, we dressed as our favourite book characters and enjoyed sharing lots of stories together. We also took part in a story book scavenger hunt- we had a look through the pictures in story books to find each item on our list.
During our free play we have enjoyed role playing; pirates, dinosaurs and mums and dads, we have buried treasure, built a pirate ship, painted, shared stories, played board games and even travelled to Sainsbury's for some eggs!
It has been lovely to welcome you all back this week, you have all jumped straight back into Preschool life.
Have a great weekend everyone and I look forward to more dinosaur adventures next week
