PE news 21.4.23

Welcome back to the summer term!

It’s been a lovely, sunny week on the field where we have started our athletics unit.

Years 1, 3, 4 and 6 set up a variety of stations around the field.

We began with a sustained run. We ran more laps of the track but at a slower pace, to try to increase how far we can run without stopping.

In javelin, we reminded ourselves how we stand and where we hold the javelin. We focussed on trying to throw it with the nose up so that we were able to get some height on the throw.

We used bean bags to replicate the shot put. We practised tucking the bean bag into our necks and pushing it away.

We focussed on keeping our arms out to the side while skipping and trying to use the rope as we ran rather jumping over it.

We practised our sprint starts by remembering to use opposite arms to legs.

In hurdles, we played around with distances and thought about staying flatter over the hurdles, instead of jumping, to increase our speed.

On Thursday we all took part in Mr Dale’s marathon madness! We ran, hopped, jumped, crawled and much more, as well as taking part in some great rugby skills sessions. A fantastic afternoon and our thanks go to the PTA for organising!

A huge good luck to Mr Dale on his epic run this weekend!!
