Year 5 Theme Day

Wow! What a brilliant day! Thank you for all coming dressed up for our Ancient Greek celebration day, and thank you to those people who brought in some goodies for us to share during our film.

In the morning, we traveled back in time and learnt all about what it was like to go to school in Athens and Sparta. The Athenians had many different lessons which helped them develop their minds and their bodies (it was only the boys that got to do this as girls weren't allowed to go to school). However, in Sparta they didn't bother learning how to read and write. They put all their efforts into learning how to fight (both boys and girls went to school in Sparta).

Next, we learnt about the Parthenon and how the Ancient Greeks used three different types of columns. I then challenged you to work in partners to build the strongest and tallest column that you could.

Finally, we printed our designs onto our cushion fabric and we enjoyed watching Disney's Hercules.
