In English this week, we have been learning all about our current reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II (so we can compare here to Queen Victoria). During our lessons, we have been recapping our knowledge of apostrophes, and we have been introduced to a new word class 'relative pronouns'. After investigating our text (a biography of Queen Elizabeth II) we realised that relative pronouns are a common feature of this text type because there are so many facts.

In Maths, we finished learning about area and perimeter. We have recapped how to find the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. Then we moved on to learning the formula for working out the area of rectilinear shapes, which is length x width, and how to also estimate the area of non-rectilinear shape.

In our afternoon sessions, we used the colour mixing skills which we learnt last week to create our 'Big Art' picture – Y5's portrait of Queen Victoria is nearly complete! We also enjoyed an exciting Mad Science assembly on Monday too!

On Tuesday, we started our new R.E. topic by talking about what a talent is. We shared what we think our talents are, and then went round the class to identify the talents we can see in each other. This was a lovely exercise, and it made us realise that we are a very talented class! It made us also understand that people see more in us than we sometimes see in ourselves.

On Wednesday, you had P.E with Mrs Jenkins and Music with Miss Holland. In Music, you have started a new unit where you will be learning how to sing one of Adele's most popular songs 'Make You Feel My Love'.

On Thursday, we all became history detectives and went out and about round school to find any clues that told us how old our school is. We found out that it was built just before the Victorian era in 1822. After that, we went back to class and used information books to find out what life would have been like for the boys (as it was only a boys school back then) who came to the Delves Charity School. We've still got to finish this job next week, but we've already realised that life would have been very different.

Finally, on Friday, we did an E-Safety lesson and learnt about the importance of having a secure password and the top tips you need to follow to make sure your password is secure. Next, we had a go at creating safe passwords and then checked them to see how easy they would be to hack using https://howsecureismypassword.net/. It was great fun!

Hope you have a great weekend,

Miss P
