This week we have been busy counting and comparing different amounts of money in maths. We have learnt about the value of coins and notes this week and added coins and notes together. We have found the difference between amounts of money using <, > and =. We have now completed our unit on money and towards the end of the week, we started a new addition and subtraction unit focusing on numbers to 100 and we will be continuing on with this for the next two weeks. We have used the 100 bead strings to help us find missing number problems to 100. Well done year 2!

In English we have continued to learn about Neil Armstrong to build our fact file. We organised the facts we had found out into boxes ready to write our information piece next week. We have focused on handwriting and making sure there are no capital letters that have got lost in the middle of words! I am looking forward to seeing your writing next week.

In RE we have been learning about the Kingdom of God. We sat in the hot seat and became king or queen for the day and asked the question "what would you change in your kingdom?" We had some brilliant answers like 'everyone will be kind to each other' and 'less pollution in the sea so the fish are safe'. We then write these ideas down and drew what our kingdom would look like.

In music you were introduced to the song 'Smoke on the Water' by Deep Purple. You used glockenspiels to the beat of the drum during the instrumentals and also listened and played along side the four note riff of the electric guitar! You carried on with our term song 'I wanna play in a band' singing it aswell as clapping out the chorus.

In art, we completed our Vincent Van Gogh inspired art pieces of Starry Night. After using the oil pastels we added a wash of water colour and learnt the word 'resist' as the oil pastels resisted the water colour meaning our detail of the starry night could still be seen!

We have also had a think about our favourite authors and class stories this week. We chose a favourite class story and created our own front covers to make a display in the reading corner. They look brilliant!

Thank you for another lovely week Year 2. Have a wonderful weekend.
Miss McCurrie
