Y6 Half Term Here We Come

Well done Y6 you have completed another half term and shown resilience and dedication in the process. I know how hard you are all working each and every day, and you deserve your break.

We began our week with our well-earned Stone Age Theme Day. After a week of tackling our first practice SATs papers, we were ready to down tools and become early men and women! Thank you for all your sheets and animal print accessories. As you can see from our group photo we were extremely imaginative in our creations. We also created weapons and jewellery out of clay, and will put the final touches to these next half term. We created our snacks from berries Mrs Burns (the gatherer) had collected, and enjoyed them whilst watching our film Early Man. A great day to recharge our batteries!

Of course we also completed different Maths tasks this week. We have tackled percentages! We have used different strategies to calculate 50%, 25%, 20%, 10%, 5% and 1% of a number. The bar model has supported our learning. We will continue with them after half term.

In English we have fully edited our descriptive writing and published them ready for our study work books. We have also used some of this time to revisit our 2017 reading paper.

In History this week we have focused on one British Stone Age settlement – Skara Brae. We have considered the uses of each dwelling and thought about the location of this settlement. After reading information on this Neolithic settlement, we completed comprehension activities to understand it fully. We will create our own floor plan next term to publish in our study work books.

We have thought carefully about using the internet this week on our Safer Internet Day. Y6 discussed this area fully and knew how to stay safe on this forum. From keeping their passwords unique and private, to understanding the importance of not sharing personal information. We discussed different areas of concern. Our day ended playing Interland and embedding this learning.

A buzz has echoed around all classrooms this week as we took part in our very first TT Rock Stars CDAT battle. Year 6 have been keen to battle another school and this one was epic! Everyone took part and increased their personal bests. Well done. We ended the battle with overwhelming success. First place out of the 5 schools taking part. Our team spirit is at an all-time high. Well done everyone!

Well another half term done. I am so proud of you all. Thank you for sharing your child's progress this week in our parent evening appointments. I would also like to thank you for all of your support. It is very much appreciated.

No homework to be completed except to rest and recharge your batteries. Have a lovely half term.
