Y3 Weekly News: Can you retell our story?

Back home  /  News  /  Y3 Weekly News

This week we've been and e-safety experts, multipliers and story re-tellers!

In Book Club this week, we have continued to read aloud and answer comprehension questions along the way! On Friday we worked hard to complete a reading comprehension paper and thought about strategies we could use to answer the questions, keep it up, Y3!

In English this week we embarked on a brand new journey together. The past few days have seen us begin our new Talk for Writing programme. We spent time learning a new story about a viking warrior named Gunnar the Gruesome. Do you think you can retell the story from our pictures? We completed short burst writes on adjective work and created a blurb/front cover for our story! Next week we will write our own versions, how exciting!

In Maths this week, we worked super hard on perfecting the column multiplication method. We thought about the steps and made sure to speak in full maths sentences all week! By Friday we were all multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers with ease! I'm so proud of the resilience everybody showed throughout the week – well done, Y3!

In Computing we completed another E-safety lesson. Our big questions all revolved around the internet and the what, why, how and whys of it! We talked about how to use it safely and thought about our inner (people we see in real life all the time) and outer community (people we speak to online using the internet) circles. We finished by using Interland to ensure we were confident in using the internet, especially when sharing info online!

In History, we focused upon the Anglo-Saxons. We found out that England used to be split into 7 kingdoms! We researched them and found out lots of interesting facts! We then looked at the timeline of the Vikings and the Anglo Saxons, we've started to learn some key dates and important battles in their history! Well done, Y3!

During Music this week we continued to practise our 'Viking Rock and Roll' song. We spent time with Miss Holland looking at the layout of the lyrics and how we could use them to help sing the song correctly! We also spent time handwriting with Miss Holland this week, recapping our Y3 and 4 spellings.

In French we continued to look at classroom instructions. We recapped sit down, stand up, tuck your chairs in. We then moved on to add more vocab and became the teachers of small groups! The children bossed their group around using instructions inclduing: listen, look at me, repeat and be quiet! Tres bien, Y3!

In R.E we recapped our parable, The parable of the Sower and the Seeds. We spoke about staying on the right path and the things in our life that help us to do this. We retold the story in our R.E books and remembered the key messages from the parable! We will use this parable to help us answer the question, 'What do parables tell us about the Kingdom of God?'

In Art we continued to study Gaudi and have begun to create a study page from this. We added in key facts and pictures of his most famous work. It was fantastic to hear the children talk their artist and also create their own art inspired by this!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
