Christmas is coming.........
to reception class!

Our preparations for Christmas are well under way. Our nativity rehearsals are going well and we are now confident performers and singers, retelling the wonderful story of Jesus' birth and why Christmas is a time of celebration. We are super excited to share this with everyone next week!

Stickman has been very busy helping us to understand prepositions this week as we have tried to work out if he was behind in front of, under, on top of, or at the side of different objects. When we were confident with saying it in a sentence we wrote out sentences to accompany the different scenarios Stickman found himself. Some of us are really enjoying the challenge of writing several sentences independently.

Continuing our theme of forest and woodland life we have explored the history of the Christmas tree. We discovered that Prince Albert, who was married to Queen Victoria, put a tree in Buckingham Palace as this was a tradition in his country, Germany, at Christmas time. It was decorated with paper decorations and candles. After a newspaper printed a picture of their Christmas tree in 1847 everybody started to copy them. This led us to talk about how we decorate our homes and the sort of trees we use. We then made our own traditional paper decorations then added a modern bauble each to show the connection of the past and present.

In our mathematics activities this week we have explored the concept of time and the order of events in a day using familiar events as clues. Using this framework we then started to consider some of the things we do before school and after school and used the sun as a guide as it changes from morning to night. We all obviously have good routines at home as everyone drew cleaning their teeth before bed as part of their familiar events! Well done everyone!

What a fabulous way to end our week with our Rudolf run for St Luke's hospice. Wearing our antlers and noses we had a joyful time and certainly kept ourselves warm in this cold weather. Thank you for the kind sponsorship money, it goes to a very worthy cause. As a school we manged to raise just over £1,827.

Our reindeer antlers and red noses will come in handy this weekend too, as many of us have said we will do it again with our families this weekend. Get your trainers ready families!!

Have a restful weekend and I'll see you all Monday
