Preschool enjoyed pancake day yesterday!
First we found out some facts about pancake day:
Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday.
- It is the last day before Lent begins.
- Lent is the Christian period leading up to Easter, when people often give up something.
- In the past people were not allowed to eat foods such as eggs, so to use them before Lent began, people would mix them with other rich foods such as milk, flour and butter to make pancakes.
We then shared the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' by Jan Fearnley and decided we would help Mr.Wolf to make pancakes. We worked as a group to make pancake batter. We all cracked an egg and then whisked together with the flour and milk. then was for the exciting part, eating a pancake for snack. We tried a traditional topping of lemon and sugar and most of us polished our pancake off – yum!
In the garden we enjoyed using a frying pan to flip pancakes and we squeezed lemons to build and strengthen out hand muscles.
What a 'flippin' great day we had!
