The weeks are just flying by and what a brilliant week we
have had. We had an animaltastic day at Chester zoo on Wednesday! This was
definitely our WOW moment of the week. We have also been learning lots too in
our different subject areas.

  • In English you have been innovating your own Space story

based on our story of ‘Bob and the moontree mystery’. You change the astronaut
and gave it a different name and you also chose a different pet. We had some pet
elephants, zebras and even snakes. On Friday, you then spent some time planning
your story using our boxing up method.

  • In maths, you have started your new unit on fractions. You

learnt what a half, quarter and third is. You were able to split shapes and
objects into these fractions. Next week we build upon this learning and will
find a half, quarter and third of different amounts.

  • In RE, you continued learning about the Easter story. You

played pass the parcel and in each layer you had a part of the Easter story. At
the end of pass the parcel you had to organise the Easter story from the
beginning to the end. You then looked at the different Easter symbols and
thought carefully about where they link into the story.

  • In geography, you continued your learning around Kenya and

you learnt about the landscape of Kenya. You found out that Kenya has a range
of landscapes from snow-topped mountains, deserts, cities and even the
savannah.

  • In DT, you learnt about manmade and natural structures. You

thought about what makes these structures stable. You then completed an
experiment to test which shape made out of dough is the most stable.

  • In science this week, you started your new unit on animals

and humans. You learnt that an offspring is a baby animal. You found out that
some animals give live birth and some animals lay eggs. You then thought about
how animals change from young to adult and how some animals like frogs and
butterflies go through a complete change called metamorphosis.

  • In music, you completed a song all about helping each

other.

Our WOW moment of the week was definitely Chester zoo but
also celebrating science week. Science week this year was all about curiosity. You wanted to
find out more about what an eco system is. You found out that an ecosystem is a
community of living things in one area that all need each other to survive. You
looked at the woodlands and thought about what animals live here. You then used
string to connect these animals together thinking about which animals needed
each other. Finally, we found out the impact deforestation, pollution and
disease has on the whole ecosystem. Many of you took part in lots of
experiments at lunch time with our fantastic science ambassadors.

What a fabulous week.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Haynes
