Inclusion Strategy
At Wybunbury Delves CE Primary School, our overarching vision is to nurture a school community where everyone experiences a love of learning and of life; where everyone is able to ‘shine’ and grow in God’s love. Rooted in our foundational scripture—“Let your light SHINE” (Matthew 5:16)—we believe that every child and member of our school family is uniquely created, valued, and loved by God.
Inclusion is not merely an addition to our practice; it is fundamental to our identity as a caring Christian community. We recognise that, like candles, our light is the same no matter what size, colour, shape, or individual need we have. We are dedicated to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every individual feels safe, welcomed, and enabled to reach their highest potential. We believe that differences in physical, sensory, cognitive, social, or emotional development do not alter a child's right or capacity to shine. Inclusion is embedded across our school culture through our Fruits of the Spirit Christian values (Galatians 5:22)—Love, Joy, Peace, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, and Self-Control—ensuring that equity, respect, and dignity define our daily practice.
Our ultimate objectives for inclusion and meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or additional needs are to:
- Achieve Universal Access & High Ambition: Ensure every pupil—regardless of background, SEND status, or barrier to learning—accesses a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum.
- Promote Flourishing & Belonging: Create a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel secure, respected, and fully included in all aspects of school life.
- Foster Independence & Resilience: Empower pupils through tailored scaffolded support so they build confidence, self-advocacy, and an "I can" mindset.
- Eliminate Educational Disadvantage: Identify needs early to prevent barriers from limiting educational, social, and personal growth.
- Prepare for Future Life: Equip every child with the academic, social, and emotional skills needed to transition smoothly to secondary education and become "leading lights" in their wider communities.
Our inclusion strategy operates through a systematic, cycle-based framework:
- Early Identification & Intervention: Using a robust Assess, Plan, Do, Review framework, staff identify needs early, establishing targeted provision before gaps widen.
- Adaptive Quality First Teaching (QFT) – Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP): Mainstream classrooms serve as the primary setting for inclusion. Teachers use adaptive planning, visual aids, assistive technology, and multi-sensory strategies so all pupils learn alongside their peers.-
- Targeted & Specialist Support: When OAIP requires supplementation, we deliver evidence-based 1:1 and small-group interventions without isolating pupils from the core curriculum or peer groups.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Staff receive regular training on SEND strategies, trauma-informed practice, and neurodiversity to maintain high standards of inclusive quality teaching.
- Integrated Health & Well-being: Pastoral care, WD well-being programme, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), and well-being checks are built into the daily routine to support mental health alongside academic growth.
