Year 6 Weekly News 2.10.26
Happy Friday Team!
What a fantastic week Year 6 have had! We have been incredibly busy learning, creating and working together, and there is so much to celebrate. Everyone should be incredibly proud of themselves and the way they have contributed to our Year 6 team.
In English, we have boxed up our narrative plan and started developing our new character, thinking carefully about how we can describe them and set the scene for our reader. We have been using similes to create vivid descriptions and practising our speech ready to use dialogue in our own narratives. In Maths, we have been working on written methods for addition and subtraction, including exchanging. We have also been looking at decimals and adjusting our number sentences, with lots of fantastic mathematical thinking taking place. As part of our Harvest of Thanks, we have been thinking about all the things we are grateful for. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.” Psalm 107:1 We each created a wheat stalk which we have added together to make a wheat sheaf for our classroom display. It will be a lovely reminder to stop and remember all that we have to be thankful for. Everyone did themselves so proud during our New Starters Service as we welcomed Reception into Wybunbury Delves. We have also started thinking about what makes a good leader, discussing the qualities needed and thinking about some of the great leaders we know. In PE, we continued developing our kicking skills, working on adding more power and getting the ball further when volleying. We then put these skills into practice during a game of Line Ball. We have also enjoyed some lovely Buddy Time, and it has been fantastic to see children playing with lots of different people within their houses. We have finished our art projects, adding collage and making our creations stand like Lubaina Himid's artwork. We are incredibly proud of the finished pieces! In Computing, we explored the different ways we can communicate using the internet, including messages, images and video calls. We also started our exciting World War II history project. We worked in teams to create historical timelines before exploring why World War II began. We listened to Neville Chamberlain’s radio announcement, used maps and playdough to visualise the countries involved and began exploring the key events that led towards the Blitz.
It has been a brilliant week, and everyone should be very proud to be part of the Year 6 team!
Homework has been set. Please remember to read your book three times. Challenge Book readers can also complete a book review for an extra challenge.
Have a lovely weekend!
