Year 6 News of the Week – 5.12.25

Another week of focused learning has come and gone, and you
have all been brilliant.

We have completed our multiplication and division unit in
maths and have begun a new unit working with fractions. Super work Year 6. We
have also completed an arithmetic end of term assessment.

We have also worked hard in English. We have used
transitional phrases to write flashbacks. They are now fully edited and published
in our posh books.

In book club this week we have enjoyed opening our reading
advent calendar windows. We have been introduced to a new author and story each
day. We have also completed an end of term reading assessment.

In spellings this week we have recapped the sh sound using ci
and ti endings. We have also completed a spelling and grammar assessment.

In geography, we learnt about the minerals found in everyday
household objects. One of the highlights was using an online resource to look
at close-up images of each mineral. We also compared the cross-sections of
chocolate bars to help us understand how minerals can be found in different
types of rocks—just like nuts, nougat, and cereal pieces are embedded in
chocolate.

Year 6, what a privilege it was to take part in a live
webinar from Antarctica! We listened to Richard Swan OBE share stories from the
ice and learnt about the importance of protecting our planet’s frozen
continent. We were truly inspired to share the important messages about how we
can help protect Antarctica and to take small actions that make a difference to
our world. We were also thrilled to hear our question read out! We can now find
out more about the pledge to help protect Antarctica by 2041.

We have enjoyed our lessons in wellbeing and PE and we have
also enjoyed learning about scaling in art and John the Baptist in RE. In music
we joined with Year 5 to practise the songs we will be singing at our Christmas
Service and we have even managed to squeeze in a run through of our speaking
parts too.
