Year 6 Weekly Update
Busy, busy, busy! Year 6 have covered so many areas of learning this week and have approached everything with fantastic enthusiasm. Well done, Year 6 – your dedication and hard work continue to impress.
In Maths,
we completed our Ratio and Proportion unit and have now begun exploring Algebra. We enjoyed using the book One Snail and Ten Crabs to help us understand the relationship between numbers and letters. We have also completed all three 2022 Maths SATs papers, which is a brilliant achievement. We will now revisit these papers during our starter activities to strengthen our understanding even further. Fantastic effort, Year 6!
In English, we completed a short burst write and have begun working on our Big Write, using our chosen animals as inspiration. We are looking forward to completing these formal pieces of writing next week.
Science Week has definitely been the highlight of our learning! We enjoyed an afternoon of experiments and shared our discoveries during our end-of-week worship. Our Science Ambassadors also ran some fantastic lunchtime experiments for everyone to take part in.
One of our favourite investigations involved designing a boat. Working in teams, we were given a sheet of paper, some paper clips, a ruler-length of tape and a handful of marbles. Our challenge was to create a boat that could hold the most marbles without sinking! After each group selected their three best designs, we tested them in bowls of water. There were some very creative entries! We recorded our results and wrote up our experiment, concluding that the greater the surface area, the larger the load the boat could hold. It was a wonderful afternoon of investigation and teamwork.
Throughout the week we have also enjoyed many other learning opportunities including PE, RE, French, Geography, PSHE, Wellbeing, Spellings, Book Club, and a morning of DT. We even found time to enjoy the adventure trail with our Year 6 buddies, which is always a highlight.
It has certainly been a very busy and productive week, and I am incredibly proud of you all.
Homework Reminder:
Maths homework has been set to recap our work on fractions. Please ensure your child keeps up to date with this, as there are still some outstanding tasks. Each activity helps to support and reinforce our learning in class.
Many thanks for attending my SATs information meeting. I hope you found it useful. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
