Wow, what a busy week we have had in Year 6! This week, we have been busy writing our own narratives based on The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, creating stories full of atmosphere, excitement and suspense. Everyone has worked incredibly hard, and we are so proud of their efforts! In maths, we have been focusing on word problems, carefully identifying what each question is asking us to do, breaking problems down into steps and completing the calculations needed to reach our final answers. In RE, we learnt about pilgrimages, discussing why people go on these journeys and exploring important pilgrimage sites around the world. In PE, we developed our kicking and passing skills, working as a team to keep the ball away from a defender and score as many goals as possible. We also joined Year 5 to complete our Amaven assessments, and a huge thank you goes to our sports captains for being so helpful! In science, we recapped our learning about voltage before investigating whether we could make batteries using lemons. We discovered that each lemon produced approximately 0.7–0.9 volts, so we connected four lemons using copper and zinc to try to light a bulb. Some groups were successful, while others found the experiment a little trickier! In HeartSmart, we explored different types of secrets, including fun surprises and secrets that protect people's feelings. Most importantly, we discussed why it is always okay to tell a trusted adult if a secret means someone could be in danger. We also reflected on the Bible verse, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” (Proverbs 3:5). As part of Black History Month, we learnt about Jesse Owens and his incredible achievements at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he won four gold medals despite competing during a time of widespread racism and discrimination under Nazi Germany. We created our own medals featuring information about Jesse and his achievements. We also had a lovely time with our buddies, getting to know the children in our houses a little better and building friendships across the school. Finally, we enjoyed a fantastic trip to Crucial Crew, where we took part in interactive activities to develop our understanding of personal safety and important life skills as we prepare for secondary school. What a fantastic week of learning, teamwork and exciting experiences!

Homework has been set on Maths.co.uk.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
