Year 6 News – 19.6.26

We have tackled so many learning activities this week and worked so hard, even in the warm weather. Well done Year 6. You are all super stars. We have:

continued with our maths starters and also moved on to completing our budget sheets and theme park site plans

begun a new writing unit in English using the book – The Ways of the Wolf

completed our homophone challenge in our spelling lessons

pratised standing long jump and been introduced to the triple long jump technique in PE

continued to consider who God is through a worship and a modern song

continued to learn our leavers songs in preparation for our service in music

continued with our charity activity in AYLA. We have all chosen a different charity and are in the process of creating an informative PowerPoint

used our stencils to complete our screen printing in art

enjoyed a wellbeing and PSHE lesson around transition

begun a new DT unit introducing us to the terms fine and gross motor skills

Our stand out moment this week is from our science lesson. As a class, we have been exploring classification, and we were excited to discover that today's lesson was all about the classification of animals. Using our prior knowledge, we worked together to categorise animals into five different groups: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. We discussed the key characteristics of each group and used these features to help us identify and sort a variety of animals correctly. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas, asking questions, and explaining their reasoning. It was wonderful to see everyone applying their learning and developing their scientific understanding through discussion and teamwork.

I cannot believe how much learning we squeeze into our Week Year 6. We move from one lesson to another with such pace and this is definitely preparing you for high school life! I hope you have had a brilliant weekend and I look forward to our next week of learning.
