Year 6 – 11.9.26

Happy Friday Team!

It has been another busy week in Year 6, with lots of exciting learning, practical activities and a little bit of mischief from Mr Bunny!

Our English lessons have been rather interesting this week as Mr Bunny has been plotting to become mayor! He has been busy writing his mayoral speech, but we decided that it could be made 100% times better! We have been working hard to improve his speech by thinking carefully about the language he uses and how he can persuade people to vote for him. However, we soon discovered that Mr Bunny had been slandering Debbie! We definitely didn't think this was fair, so we helped to replace the posters and put things right. We have been thinking about how words and messages can influence what people think. In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of partitioning numbers and exploring how numbers can be broken down into different parts. We have also been comparing numbers, using our mathematical knowledge to decide which numbers are greater than, less than or equal to one another. We have started our new Science topic all about electricity! We began by recalling what we already knew from our previous learning before getting hands-on with electrical circuits. We had a go at making our own circuits and worked out how to connect the components correctly so that we could light a bulb! It was great to see our scientific knowledge in action. In French, we have been learning about the United Kingdom. We discovered the French names for the different countries that make up the UK and practised recognising and using them. In Art, we finished our grid method silhouettes before moving on to explore the idea of negative space. We used the grid method to help us carefully observe shapes and spaces within an image. We then used these skills to help us see, draw and scale up our drawings, paying close attention to proportion and detail. In PE, we have been developing our kicking skills. We looked at which part of our foot we should use when kicking a ball and practised controlling our technique. We challenged ourselves further by using both feet, rather than just relying on our strongest foot. We then put our skills into practice by playing Line Ball, where we had to work together and use our football skills in a game situation. Our Computing learning has continued with digital communication. We recapped our knowledge of IP addresses and how they help identify where a message has come from and where it needs to go. We then explored data packets and discovered that when a message is sent across a network, it is broken down into smaller packets of data. Each data packet has a header, which contains important information needed to help the packet travel from the sender to the recipient. This includes the ‘from’ IP address, the ‘to’ IP address, how many packets there are altogether and which packet it is. We also learnt about the data payload. This is the part of the packet that contains the actual information being sent.

It has been another fantastic week of learning in Year 6! We have been thinking hard, working collaboratively, challenging ourselves and, of course, helping Mr Bunny with his rather ambitious mayoral campaign!
