Year 5 Weekly News 16.10.26
Happy Friday, Year 5!
What another lovely week we've had! The highlight of our week was definitely our class worship. You did a wonderful job sharing your learning with the rest of the school and with parents. Your speaking was clear and confident, and it was fantastic to see how well you worked together. I was particularly proud of the thoughtful messages you shared and the effort you put into making our worship so special. Well done, everyone!
In Maths, we've had a busy week exploring lots of different number skills. We began by recapping rounding, putting our top tips from last week into practice to help us tackle some tricky questions. We then continued learning about negative numbers, practising counting forwards and backwards through zero and thinking about where we might see these numbers in everyday life. Finally, we explored Roman numerals, learning how letters can be used to represent numbers. You worked hard throughout and showed great determination when tackling new challenges.
In English, we've started an exciting new writing unit inspired by The Little Island. This time, we're going to be writing newspaper reports about the events that took place in the story. We began by investigating what a good newspaper report looks like, exploring features such as catchy headlines, introductory paragraphs, factual information and quotes from witnesses. Once we'd become familiar with the layout and language, you began planning your own reports. I'm really looking forward to seeing you turn your plans into fantastic newspaper articles next week!
Alongside all of this, you've also been busy with Spelling, RE, PE, Music, History, Art, Science, Computing and Wellbeing. Another busy week with lots of wonderful learning!
Have a fantastic weekend, Year 5!
