Happy Friday, Year 5!

What another busy week we’ve had! You have worked incredibly hard and it has been lovely to see you tackling new challenges with such determination.

In Maths, our focus has been on blank number lines with numbers up to 100,000 and 1,000,000. You learnt some useful strategies to help you work out where numbers should be positioned. By finding the midpoint first, you could then divide the number line again to identify the quarter and three quarter points. These landmarks made it much easier to estimate where other numbers belonged. You’ve had to think carefully this week, but you’ve done a fantastic job!

In English, we finally reached the end of The Little Island. The story gave us lots to think about, particularly the importance of listening to others and recognising that we are all connected. We’re now using the story as inspiration to begin planning our own versions, and I’m already looking forward to seeing where your ideas take you!

Our wow moment this week came in Science, where we investigated air resistance. You made simple parachutes and tested how they travelled through the air. By comparing your results, you discovered that a larger surface area creates more air resistance, causing the parachute to fall more slowly. There was some brilliant scientific thinking and discussion as you tried to explain what you observed.

Alongside all of this, you’ve also been busy with PE, RE, Music, History, PSHE, Computing, Book Club, Spelling and Handwriting.
