Year 4 News of the Week – 25.9.26

Happy Weekend, Year 4!

What another busy week we’ve had! You have worked extremely hard and it has been lovely to see you tackling new challenges with such determination. I am very proud of you.

In Maths, our focus has been on blank number lines with numbers up to 1,000 and 10,000. You have learnt some useful strategies to help you work out where numbers should be positioned. We have also been adding in jumps of 25, 50, 100 and 500, which has really helped us to think carefully about the intervals on our number lines. We have also been comparing and ordering numbers up to 10,000, using the inequality signs < and > to show which numbers are greater than or less than each other. You’ve had to think carefully this week, but you’ve done a fantastic job! New homework has been set to consolidate your learning.

In English, we have now reached the end of William and the Missing Masterpiece. We have had lots of fun exploring the story and developing our writing skills. We have written using speech, created expanded noun phrases and even designed our own wanted posters for the mice! We have now finished the book and are ready to use it as inspiration for our own versions. I’m already looking forward to seeing where your ideas take you!

Our wow moment this week came in Science, where we have been learning all about classification. We have used minibeasts to help us understand how living things can be grouped according to their features. You worked carefully to create your own classification charts and thought hard about which groups different minibeasts belonged to. There was some brilliant scientific thinking and discussion as you explained your choices.

We have been just as busy in our afternoons too. We have enjoyed PE, RE, Music, History, PSHE, Computing, Book Club, Friendship Terrace, Spelling and Handwriting.
