Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fantastic week of learning Year 3 have had! Here is a snapshot of everything we have been getting up to across the curriculum.

This week, we brought our seasonal tart projects to life! After planning our designs, we carefully prepared and made our tarts using a range of food preparation skills. The children did an excellent job applying their chopping and peeling techniques safely, using the claw and bridge methods when preparing vegetables. Once complete, we enjoyed taste-testing our finished products and gave one another thoughtful and constructive feedback. It was a fun and successful process from start to finish!
In maths, we began our new unit on time. We explored telling the time to the nearest minute past  and nearest minute to, developing confidence in reading and interpreting analogue clocks.

We completed our end-of-unit assessment for Animals Including Humans and reflected on all the knowledge we have gained. To celebrate our learning, the children created informative posters showcasing everything they had learnt throughout the topic — they looked excellent and demonstrated great understanding!

This week in English, we planned our own characters inspired by The Snorgh and the Sailor. We thought carefully about how we could innovate and be creative while following a similar story structure. Alongside this, we developed our grammar skills by learning about adverbs for cause and opposition and practising the use of apostrophes for contractions.

In athletics, our focus was on jumping techniques. We explored how using a hop, skip, jump  strategy can help us generate momentum and improve distance. The children showed great determination and enthusiasm.

In RE, we explored the  Ten Commandments. We worked together to order them and discussed whether they are still relevant today. The children shared thoughtful opinions about which commandments they felt were most important and explained their reasoning. We also learnt some new vocabulary, including the word covenant.

Our geography learning focused on coasts. We located Wybunbury on a map and used atlases to identify our nearest coastal towns, helping us build our understanding of places and geographical features.

Well done to all of Year 3 for another brilliant week of learning — I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Kind regards,
Mrs Roney.
