Back homeYear 3 Weekly News

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 3! Despite the heat, we have persevered and engaged with our learning amazingly!

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement, investigating both length and capacity through a range of practical activities and problem-solving tasks.

In English, we proudly concluded our final narrative writing piece. The children worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of their achievements. As part of this, we used AI to bring our characters to life by creating illustrations based on the detailed character descriptions the children had written. These images were then used on the front covers of their finished narratives, making each story feel like a real published book! We have now begun our final writing unit of the year, where we are preparing a set of instructions for making Snorgh the perfect soup. We can't wait to see the creative ideas the children come up with!

In Science, we explored what plants need in order to grow healthily. Building on this learning, we planned our own enquiry to investigate how water impacts plant growth. We discussed the importance of carrying out a fair test by keeping all of the other variables the same so that our results will be accurate and reliable.

In RE, we learnt about why different religions have different rules. We also explored why many religions share a similar principle to the Golden Rule: treating others in the way that you would like to be treated yourself. The children had some thoughtful discussions and made excellent connections between different faiths.

In Computing, we continued developing our digital skills and applying what we have learnt throughout the unit.

One of the highlights of our week was receiving a letter from Aphra Brandreth MP in response to the letters we wrote last half term to raise awareness about rubbish in our local area. The children were absolutely delighted to receive a reply on official House of Commons headed paper from London. It was wonderful for them to see that their voices had been heard and that their writing can make a real difference.

I can't quite believe we are coming to the end of our time together in Year 3—it has absolutely flown by! It has been a pleasure watching the children grow in confidence, independence and maturity throughout the year, and I am so proud of everything they have achieved.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend enjoying the sunshine.

Best wishes,

Mrs Roney.
