Year 3 Weekly News

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 3! The children have been buzzing with excitement and curiosity from start to finish.

In English, we received a very mysterious email from our Site Manager, Andy. He had spotted some strange things on the school CCTV over the weekend. When we looked at the images, we could see giant footprints, a huge scarf, and a large toolbox. The children were hooked straight away! We made posters and put them up around school to find out who these items belonged to. Soon after, the Secret Giant wrote back to us and even sent us a book about his adventures. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it this week.

In Maths, we worked with number lines, making our own and estimating where different numbers should be placed. The children showed great reasoning and growing confidence.

In Computing, we explored digital devices. We compared things that can be done digitally and things that can’t. The children painted with watercolours and then created artwork on an iPad app to compare the two experiences. They shared thoughtful preferences for each method for a variety of reasons.

In PE, we continued developing our football skills. The children are becoming really confident with passing and moving the ball across the pitch — and even enjoyed playing a full game.

In Science, we discovered fossils and learned how they are formed. The children were fascinated by the idea of plants and animals being preserved in rock over millions of years.

In French, we built on our learning and can now ask how someone is and respond when asked ourselves. The children loved practising conversations with their partners.

We also enjoyed our lessons in RE, PSHE, Wellbeing, Music and History, where the children continued to show great enthusiasm and curiosity.
