Dear Parents
and Carers,
This week seems to have flown by! Here is just a snapshot of some
of our learning this week.
In Maths, we have been learning about non-unit fractions and
practised placing fractions on a blank number line. The children used fraction
walls to help them compare and position fractions accurately, showing great
mathematical thinking and reasoning skills.
In English, we completed our narrative writing based on our
carefully planned ideas. The children worked incredibly hard to write eight
different sections following a traditional narrative structure, including the
introduction, problem and resolution. It has been wonderful to see the children
developing their stamina and creativity as writers; the progress observed since
September has been extraordinary!
In Science, we explored the diets of animals and discussed what
living things need to stay healthy. Through a matching activity, the children
learnt about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores, identifying the different
foods animals eat. They then applied their knowledge by designing a mysterious
omnivore for the zoo and creating a healthy, balanced meal plan for it.
In DT, we explored where our food comes from around the world.
Linking with Geography, the children used maps to identify food origins and
learnt about the different climates needed for food to grow successfully,
including tropical, temperate, arid, polar and mountainous regions.
In Art, we used charcoal to create our own cave drawings inspired
by prehistoric art. The children experimented with shading, texture and simple
shapes to create some fantastic pieces of artwork.
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you have a lovely
weekend!
Kind regards,
Mrs Roney.
