This week in Year 3 we began our exciting new History topic on Ancient Egypt. We started by exploring where the Ancient Egyptians fit within a timeline of world history. As a class, we made predictions about when we thought this civilisation existed and placed our ideas onto a physical number line stretched across the classroom. After investigating further, we discovered when the Ancient Egyptian civilisation began and ended. We also linked this learning to our previous History topic on the Romans and were fascinated to find out that these two time periods actually overlapped in history!

Another highlight of the week was World Book Day, which brought lots of excitement to our classroom. We had a fantastic range of characters join us, including Danny the Champion of the World, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid character, Cinderella, Angelina Ballerina, Simone Biles, a snake and many more! It was wonderful to see everyone celebrating their love of reading.

As part of our World Book Day learning, we explored the book We Move Together. We discussed why diversity and inclusion are so important in our society and reflected on how everyone is unique. The children wrote thoughtful poems about acceptance and created beautiful pieces of artwork to celebrate individuality. We also had a wonderful opportunity to partner up with Year 1 and spend time reading to each other. We thoroughly enjoyed this.

In Science, we carried out a practical experiment to investigate how reflective different materials are. The children enjoyed testing and comparing materials to see which ones reflected light the best.

In Design and Technology, we began exploring how to programme a microbit so that it lights up. We are working towards designing a piece of wearable technology that can light up at night to help keep people safe on the roads.

In Computing, we learnt about different event tiles that can be used with sprites. The children explored using three different event tiles across three different sprites and enjoyed experimenting with how these commands control what happens on screen.

It has been a very busy and enjoyable week across all of our lessons, and the children have shown great enthusiasm for their learning! Have a lovely weekend,Mrs Roney and Miss Summerfield.
