Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a fantastic week in Year 3 and the children have
worked incredibly hard across all subjects.

In Maths, we have begun our new unit on fractions. The children
have been learning about unit fractions and non-unit fractions, exploring how
they are represented and how they relate to whole numbers. They have shown
great enthusiasm and curiosity as they develop their understanding of this new
concept.

In English, we started writing our own narratives inspired by {The Society
of Distinguished Lemmings}. The children have been full of
imaginative ideas and have begun crafting their own engaging stories, focusing
on including a range of SPaG skills such as: present perfect tense,
prepositional phrases, fronted adverbials and relative clauses which focus on using
who/that.

In Art, we explored the use of charcoal and investigated how to
create chiaroscuro in our work. We focused on tone, shading, and dimension,
which will support us as we move towards creating our own gestural drawings.
The children really enjoyed experimenting with this new medium.

In Science, we began our new topic: Animals Including Humans. We
discussed the Eatwell Guide and learned about the different food groups and
their benefits to the body. The children showed great interest in understanding
how to keep themselves healthy.

We also completed our History topic on the Ancient Egyptians. In
our final lesson, we explored the enquiry question: {Were the Ancient Egyptians a
civilised society as we are today?} The children carried out
research using secondary sources, shared their ideas through thoughtful class
discussions, and then wrote a short balanced argument to present their views.

In PE, we focused on tracking in cricket. We discussed how this
skill helps us to be more efficient when catching a ball, and the children
enjoyed putting this into practice during activities.

It has truly
been a great week in Year 3—well done to everyone for their hard work and
positive attitude!

Enjoy the bank
holiday weekend!

Mrs Roney.
