Year 3 Roman Trip to Chester
What an amazing day we’ve had in Chester. The children were impeccable in their behaviour and represented the school beautifully. They really did us proud.
We began our adventure at the Deva Roman Experience, where we met our Roman soldier guide. The children were fascinated as they learned some Latin and discovered what it took to become a Roman soldier. Everyone had the chance to handle a shield and sword before marching through the streets of Chester to the Roman amphitheatre, loudly calling sin, dex, sin as we went. We learned battle tactics and formations, and had great fun “attacking” our teachers who had formed a human shield, although the teachers certainly got their revenge.
After lunch back at the museum, we boarded a “boat” bound for Britannia and arrived ready to learn all about the Romans, Celts and Boudicca. The children were captivated by stories of Roman gods, Roman food; including flamingo tongues and honey soaked dormice! Then we moved to the Roman baths and latrines. Discovering that Romans all shared one toilet without cubicles was definitely an eye opening moment.
We finished the day with a final battle in the amphitheatre, where Miss Holland transformed into “Bonecrusher” and emerged victorious as a gladiator. A brilliant end to a brilliant trip.
