Year 2 Weekly News

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 2! The children have been full of enthusiasm and curiosity, especially during our transition activities.

Our highlight of the week was Transition Day. We visited our new Year 3 classroom to explore and get a feel for what next year will be like. As we already know each other, we played some fun games to learn even more about each other — including Two Truths and a Lie, which the children loved! We also thought carefully about our own rules for Year 3, designed our peg labels, made an All About Me craft, and found out what will be new next year — such as learning French and going swimming. The children were full of excitement and asked brilliant questions.

We also had a visit from the school nurses, who talked to us about looking after our teeth. They showed us lots of interesting information — including an Xâ€'ray where we could see adult teeth waiting in the gums ready to erupt. The children were fascinated!

In English, we drafted our own fact files about pollution. The children gathered lots of information and planned their writing carefully — we’ll be publishing them next week.

In Maths, we continued our measure unit, focusing on capacity and temperature. The children enjoyed comparing different containers and reading scales.

In Science, we explored the seasons and looked at how trees change throughout the year. The children made thoughtful observations and enjoyed discussing the signs of each season.

We also enjoyed our lessons in RE, Geography, PSHE, Music, Computing, PE and Art, where the children continued to show great enthusiasm and positivity.

A reminder: Monday is nonâ€'uniform day for our World Cup celebrations. A £1 donation is appreciated. We are wishing England the very best of luck for their early hours of the morning match!
