Year 2 News – Happy half term!

In our learning this week, we have completed our own instructions. We planned and wrote instructions to get to our friend’s house. We used questions, subheading, bullet points, imperative verbs, time adverbials and the conjunction so! We are very pleased with our work.

In Maths this week, we have learnt about addition. We have been learning strategies for addition to build our confidence rather than using our fingers to count. We have learnt about rules for adding 0, 1, 2, 3, near doubles and doubles. We have also been recapping our recall of number bonds to 10. We have enjoyed playing games and doing daily activities to build our confidence.

For our spellings this week, we have reviewed all our spelling patterns from this half term.

Our wow moment this week must be our first DT lesson. We have learnt a lot of new words – axle, mechanism, design brief. We have looked at axles on things with wheels. We inspected a set of toy cars and found that axles hold the wheels and allow them to rotate. We then looked at a Ferris wheel. We saw that this is a large structure which incorporates an axle. We followed a design brief and completed a design for our own Ferris wheel. We look forward to seeing where this learning takes us next.

We have also enjoyed lessons in RE, science, history, wellbeing, PSHE, Music and PE.
