Year 2 News 11.09.26

We have had a fantastic first full week in year 2! 

In our writing this week, we have had opportunities to write about what the cats could eat at the cinema, we planned and drew a meal we would make the cats if they came for tea, information on how to get to the zoo, a postcard to explain how the cats stole the penguin and even a missing poster to help the zoo to find the penguin! We are loving seeing what exciting things we will read in our book each day and have enjoyed the different types of writing we have done. 

In our maths learning, we have mostly focused on partitioning. Following on from learning about numbers to 100, we have been using lots of recources like bead strings, base 10, ten frames and straws to create numbers and then use them to understand the value of the tens and ones in each number. We then moved on to apply this to Maths respresentations like part whole models. We have also been learning about the fact families within these two digit numbers. 

Our RE lesson focus has been based on learning about the Bible. We looked at different types of Bibles we have in school and learnt that the book is a large book of different stories. In Art, we completed our work using natural materials and spent time photographing our compositions. PE we are learning about KS1 games to play outside. Heartsmart this week was based on power. Our computing involved developing mouse skills. We started our courageous advocacy project for this year. We learnt that through the AYLA programme, we are going to become leaders. We are looking forward to seeing what the award involves. 

We have also enjoyed our lessons of RE, science, Art, PE, heartsmart, wellbeing, computing, music and courageous advocacy. 

Our first science lesson this week was all about materials. We learnt about different materials and their uses. We started with a guessing game, in which, we needed to guess what material was in the back. We then completed a hunt around our classroom and school to see what materials things we have around us are made of. We conducted a great exploration of the uses of different materials. 

Year 2 have been showing amazing dedication to learning, teamwork and kindess. You are all shining – keep up the great work!
