Year 1 Weekly News 18.09.26
Dear Parents and Carers,
What another fantastic week we have had in Year 1! The children have continued to settle beautifully into their routines and have worked incredibly hard across all areas of their learning. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, confidence and independence continue to grow.
This week, we concluded our Strong Start unit, Dragons Don’t Share. The children have absolutely loved this book, and it has been so wonderful to see them engaging with writing after returning from the summer holidays.
We have written letters to characters, made lists of objects to return to Ruby and practised using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing. The children have worked so hard to apply these skills independently, and we have been incredibly proud of them!
In Maths, we have continued our Place Value unit. We have been practising counting forwards and backwards, finding one more and one less and exploring different number sequences.
We have also been working hard on forming our digits 0–9 correctly, making sure that we start each number from the correct starting point. Please continue to encourage your child to practise their number formation at home when you can!
In RE, we have been learning about Harvest. We discussed why Harvest is celebrated and explored some of the ways in which Christians celebrate Harvest, including giving thanks for the food we have and helping those who may be in need.
In Computing, we began learning about technology. We talked about what technology is and identified different examples of technology that we might see and use in our everyday lives.
We have now learnt all of the letters in our Curly Caterpillar family and have worked hard on forming them correctly. Next week, we will be moving on to our One-Armed Robot family. The children have been doing a fantastic job of remembering their letter formation!
Our provision areas have been particularly exciting this week! The children have loved:
Constructing dragon caves using Lego and building blocks
Making dragon cookies with playdough
Drawing large maps of Ruby's kingdom
Sorting Ruby's treasure using tweezers, helping us to develop our fine motor skills
It has been wonderful to see the children using their imaginations, working collaboratively and bringing our learning from Dragons Don’t Share into their independent play.
Another fabulous week, Year 1! We are so proud of how hard you have worked and how much you have achieved. We can't wait to see what next week has in store!
Just a reminder that PE is on Tuesday and Thursday.
Phonics book will also be changed on Monday and Thursday.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Roney.
