Year 1 Weekly News – 09.10.26

We have had another fantastic week in Year 1! Here are just a few of our WOW moments from this week, celebrating some of the exciting learning and experiences we have enjoyed together.

RE
We have been thinking about how we can help people who do not have a successful harvest. We discussed some of the factors that might affect a harvest and explored different ways we could support people who are struggling. We then took advantage of a beautiful sunny afternoon to get outside during continuous provision, where the children created their own posters sharing ideas about how we can help others. It was lovely to see the children thinking carefully about how we can show kindness and care for those in need.

PE
We loved bringing our learning to life by exploring different ways of travelling and balancing as a range of forest animals! Through a variety of fun and exciting games, the children practised moving in different ways, controlling their bodies and holding different balances. There were lots of opportunities to develop our coordination, listening skills and confidence while having plenty of fun!

DT
In DT, we worked in small groups to investigate how we could construct different towers, with one important challenge: making them as stable as possible! The children experimented with different ways of building and explored what happened when they changed their designs. We discovered that a wide base helps to make a structure more stable, supporting it and helping it to balance. We even made links to our learning in PE, thinking about how balance is important both when building structures and when controlling our own bodies!

These are just a few of our WOW moments from another busy and exciting week. We are so proud of the children's enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork, and we look forward to sharing more of our learning adventures with you next week!

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.

Mrs Roney.
