Year 1 had a great trip and learned lots about toys at Nantwich Museum. We looked at many different toys and heard the story of how the teddy bear got its name. It was about President Theodore Roosevelt, who went shooting but did not want to shoot a bear cub. A toy owner in America then made a bear and put it in his shop window. People wanted to buy them, so he needed a name for the toy. As Teddy was President Roosevelt’s nickname, he called it a teddy bear. We also saw a very old bear called Tuck. He was worn and hard and looked very different from the teddy bears we have today. We went on a toy hunt before walking to Nantwich Library, where the librarian read us a story called Shark in the Park. We made telescopes and joined in with the story, shouting, “THERE’S A SHARK IN THE PARK!” Afterwards, we went on a hunt around the library to find characters from the story using our telescopes. We also used our library cards to take out our own books. It was a great day and we really enjoyed ourselves.
