Year 1 Newsletter – 25.09.26

What a great week of learning we have had in Year 1!

The children have had a fantastic week and have really enjoyed getting stuck into all of our learning both indoors and outdoors.

In PE, we have been enjoying lots of fun games to develop our listening and teamwork skills. The children have been working together, listening carefully to instructions and encouraging one another.

We had a very exciting surprise this week when a new visitor entered our classroom during the night… Otto the Book Bear!

We have been very curious to find out more about Otto and have written a letter to him, asking him some questions about his adventures. We have also been working hard on our letter formation and remembering to use capital letters and question marks when writing our sentences. The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm for our new book adventure!

In Maths, we have been learning how to compare numbers using the vocabulary fewest, fewer, greatest, most and more than. We have used tens frames and number tracks to help us compare different numbers 1-10 and explain our thinking.

In Science, we have been learning about the difference between an object and a material. We have been thinking carefully about what objects are made from and beginning to use scientific vocabulary to describe the materials we see around us.

We have also been developing our computing skills. The children have been learning how to log on to a laptop and have had lots of opportunities to practise using the keyboard. They have been fantastic at remembering their new skills and following instructions carefully.

We have had a wonderful week of learning, and it has been lovely to see the children enjoying themselves, working together and growing in confidence. We are very proud of all their hard work!
