Happy Friday Team!

What a busy first week back we have had in Year 1!

When we arrived at school, something strange had happened… the colours in our classroom had fallen out! They had split themselves away from each other and refused to mix. We have loved exploring what happened and finding out more about our colourful problem. In Maths, we have been busy looking at numbers above 20. We have practised counting in tens and explored odd and even numbers. We started our new History topic all about Wybunbury. We looked carefully at what Wybunbury looks like today and came up with lots of buildings and places that we already know in our village. In RE, we began thinking about creations. We all had the chance to be creative ourselves and used clay to build our very own creations. During Computing, we started exploring ScratchJr. We investigated the different programming blocks and learnt how to make our sprites move. We have also been finding out what day-to-day life is like in Antarctica. We discovered how people adapt their way of life and make changes to help protect the environment. In D&T, we looked at fruits and non-fruits. We learnt that fruits have seeds and had a go at sorting different foods into groups. In Science, we continued our learning about plants focusing on fruits and vegetables. We discovered that fruits contain seeds, while vegetables can be parts of plants such as bulbs, flowers, stems or leaves. We enjoyed sorting different fruits and vegetables and explaining our choices. In Wellbeing we spent some time reflecting on our Year 1 journey and talked about all the amazing things we are proud of achieving so far. In PE, we started developing our catching skills. We practised finding the best ways to catch a ball confidently before becoming dragons who had to protect their eggs! We also played a game of throw tennis where we had to try and catch each other out. There was some fantastic teamwork and brilliant catching.
