Year 1 News 3.7.26

Happy Friday Team! This week has been another busy and exciting one in Year 1!

We started the week by finishing our wonderful Mixed stories. The children worked incredibly hard to write their own versions, using all of the writing skills they have developed throughout the unit. In Maths, we explored mass, comparing the weight of objects using non-standard units before learning about kilograms (kg). We enjoyed making predictions and finding out which objects were heavier or lighter. Our History lesson took us back in time as we discovered how schools have changed since the 1970s. We enjoyed comparing classrooms, equipment and school rules from the past with our own experiences today. In PE, we continued developing our catching skills through fun games such as Kings and Queens and Piggy in the Middle, practising our teamwork and coordination. During Computing, we designed our own backgrounds for our animations. We can't wait to bring them to life next week when we create our finished animations! In HeartSmart, we learned about being Seeds of Potential. We talked about how everyone has the ability to grow and achieve amazing things, just like the cress seeds we have planted. We are excited to watch them grow over the coming days. In RE, we thought about how our world has not always been looked after as well as it should be. We created colourful posters to remind others how we can all help care for God's wonderful creation. One of the highlights of the week was our Mixed celebration morning! We had lots of fun mixing coloured water, paint and different fruits to explore what happens when things are combined. We also enjoyed some dancing and had a fantastic time celebrating all of our learning. In Science, we looked at the season of summer. We visited our class tree and carefully observed how it has changed throughout the year, drawing what we could see and reflecting on the changes across the seasons. To finish the week, we had a lovely morning getting to know Mrs Morris and finding out what life in Year 2 will be like. The children asked some brilliant questions and are already feeling excited about the next step in their learning journey!
